In the past few months, I’ve analyzed a couple of picture books, Those Shoes and Sweet Smell of Roses , to determine the craft moves I can teach my students. As a result of analyzing these books, I’ve developed teaching points off of the craft moves.
Ruth and I picked up a bunch of picture books at NCTE that were released this year. We’re excited about reading them and unpacking the craft moves we think the authors used so that we can use these books to lift the level of student writing in our classrooms.

I would enjoy reading more about the process and thinking that you do when you are analyzing the picture books for writing craft.
I love your book reviews. Please continue this feature! I’d love to see a lesson you did with “A Tree Named Steve.”
