NCTE: A Little List

  1. I. Am. So. EXCITED!
  2. I can’t wait to present with Stacey, Patrick Allen, and Troy Rushmore. We are discussing the way our personal reading and writing lives influence our teaching. It’ll be fast paced, useful, and fun. If you plan to attend, make sure to say hello. :)
  3. I get to visit with people I only see at NCTE. I started to list them here, but then realized it would be too easy to leave someone out.
  4. I’m going to be in the same room as LAURIE HALSE ANDERSON and other remarkable authors, poets, teachers, and friends. Again I’d list them, but I’m afraid I’ll leave someone out.
That’s quite an “I” list. Here’s something for you if you’re going:
  1. Use the SEARCHABLE PROGRAM on the convention site to plan your sessions. It is incredibly convenient, especially if you want to search for specific people.
  2. Let us know if you are going to attend. My friend Mary Helen (author of Book Savors) and were talking how much fun it would be to meet some fellow slicers and Two Writing Teacher community members.
And a list if you’re not going:

Title: EXPLORING INDEPENDENCE AS READERS AND WRITERS: FOR OURSELVES AND OUR STUDENTS
Independence opens a new world for learners. Modeling our own literacy is key in helping students become independent, thoughtful decision-makers. Nudging independence involves wise teaching, consistent modeling, and gradual empowerment. This session focuses on the rituals and routines we, as educators, use to nuture independence in young readers and writers.
