A student I taught in 2010-2011 wrote me the sweetest note of thanks for how I helped her to write about the tough stuff in her memoir. I read her note several times–the first two times I cried because I was so touched by who she’s becoming and how she’s healing from the bullet that landed her in a wheelchair for life. The third time I grieved for the loss of memoir in the dawning of the Common Core as I prepare to obediently teach the state’s units. I’m wondering if others of you are feeling the pain I am feeling.
Please read and share your thoughts:

Thanks.
