In a few weeks we will host the 6th Annual Slice of Life Story Challenge. In case you didn’t hear, we’re splitting this year’s Challenge into two parts: the adult challenge and a new classroom challenge, which will give students who are partaking in the SOLSC with their class a chance to read and comment on other kids’ blog posts. While Ruth will be hosting the adult challenge and I’ll be hosting the classroom challenge, I’m still handling the prizes for the adult challenge. (NOTE: There will not be any TWT-sponsored prizes for the classroom challenge. It’ll be up to you to decide if and how you’ll reward your students who write for the entire month. Click here if you need some ideas.)
Waaaaaaay back in 2008, Ali Edwards offered a prize for one person who wrote for all 31 days of the Challenge. With each subsequent year, we’ve given away more prizes to participants who write and link their posts properly all month. Last year there were enough prizes to give some away throughout March, including a prize for people who welcomed newcomers and for the person who left the most comments on a given day. While not everyone who writes will receive a prize (Writing and being part of a community of writers is the real reward!), I think it’s fun to be able to offer small writing-related gifts to people who challenge themselves to write and comment on other people’s writing for an entire month. Hence, this is my official request for Slice of Life Prizes.
Are you artistic? Do you want to share a new copy of a professional text or writing-related book you’d like to share? Have you written a book for kids or teachers that you’d like to donate? If you would like to offer gender-neutral*, writing-related prize to one of the Challenge’s writers, then please contact me via e-mail. I’ll need a verbal description of what you’re willing to donate and a JPG of the item(s) no later than Friday, February 1st.
Please note: while most of our participants live in North America, we have slicers on nearly every continent. Therefore, if you are only willing to ship a prize within the United States, please let me know that up-front since you are responsible for covering all shipping costs.

*= While most of past Slice of Life Story Challenge participants have been women, we regularly have several men who participate in the Challenge.
I’m late to the party, but I’m back!! I hope!!! Sometimes it is hard to find the words, but man, once they are found, I am always so awestruck by the way they work in my life.

I love to make charts and create visual resources for my students. I am being challenged this year to do more to meet more needs. I figured out a possible solution today and look forward to trying it out the rest of the week.
