“Everyone needs to be valued. Everyone has the potential to give something back.” – Diana Princess of Wales
Before your students head-off into the weekend, I thought I’d mention the power of learning from each other. While it’s important to share one’s own writing, it’s equally important to read other people’s writing and comment on it. One type of comment you can encourage your students to leave for each other are connection comments. These are things that make note of a connection the reader had with the writer’s slice of life story. The other type of comment you can encourage your students to leave are one’s about writing. One thing that often flatters other writers is to tell them that you learned something about writing from them. I am constantly getting ideas for different topics I can write about and formats I can try from other writers. When I read a well-written piece of writing, I like to comment on what I noticed that struck me about the writing. So, if your students need assistance when it comes to commenting on each other’s slices, perhaps you can chat about learning from one another before the weekend begins.
HAPPY FRIDAY!
Details:
- If your students are slicing from their personal blogs, then you should link their blog posts together using your classroom or personal blog. Then, share the unique URL to the location of the “round up” of student slices. (Click here to find out what a unique URL is.) Remember to post one unique URL and use the same username/email to log so your comments will appear instantly.
- Only post the link to your students’ slices of life here. Do not post the link to your personal slice of life stories here. Post your personal slice of life story over at the daily call for individual slice of life stories.
