Words Overheard http://www.raisingreadersandwriters.com/2013/03/words-overheard-solc-2013-15-of-31.html
Where’s the camera when you need it?
I’ve heard it said “A picture paints 1000 words”….. Oh, how I wish I had one now!!!
Each week, my friend Laura and I meet with a group of students who are incredibly passionate about reading. SO passionate they are willing give up an hour after school every FRIDAY to participate in our club. The fun we have had, and the books we have read….. Honestly, I can think of no better way to begin my weekend…..but this post is not about me….
Getting back to the kids….
Today, as usual….we began by positioning our desks in circle and passing out a snack and drink. (We believe our readers should have well nourished; well hydrated brains.) Then, once everyone was seated, we began our discussion. Without going into detail about the book, (no spoilers here), I will share the topic of discussion.
What do you think the future would be like without books? What would you do if someone tried to take your books? {Insert picture here]
As a writer, I find myself at a loss…..there are no words to describe the mortified expressions on their faces or the intensity in their voices as they adamantly proclaimed: “No One will ever take my books!”
Call me a dork, but seriously, these kids and their reaction, totally made my day!!!
(The current book we are reading is the fictional novel: Human.4; written by Mike A. Lancaster.)

Here’s the link:
http://morethanblueberries.blogspot.ca/2013/03/my-baby.html
She’s only 14 months, but already growing too fast – always my baby.
I snuck into her room this morning.
Quiet. Tip-toeing. Sure not to step on the second board from the wall that always creaks.
It’s early and I have to get going.
She’s not yet crying out from her crib, and I don’t want to wake her.
I just want a peek.
Oh those feet.
No longer the characteristic of a child just born. The feature that every adult, every Mom of older kids wants to see, to touch, to remember.
These are no longer feet of a baby. These are feet of a growing girl.
A girl who is growing by the minute.
Who is extremely independent.
Who is learning how to use her words, make the sounds of a dog and curl up her lips into the “moo” of a cow.
And while I’m enjoying watching her everyday as she changes, develops, grows.
I’m already mourning.
The cuddles.
The late nights together.
And while my rational self knows that the whole point of this parenting thing is to create independent children who learn who they are and can fly on their own… it feels too soon.
She no longer needs mom in the same way.
From here on end, it will be different.
At least she’ll always me “my baby.”
I’ll love you forever,
I’ll like you for always,
As long as I’m living
my baby you’ll be.
– Robert Munsch
