Connecting, Cultivating, and Celebrating Our Words: Using Online Relationships as Writers

I’m looking forward to presenting about online writing relationships at this year’s Keystone State Reading Association (KSRA) Conference, which will be held in State College, PA in less than two weeks.  Ruth and I will be leading a session, “Connecting, Cultivating, and Celebrating Our Words: Using Online Relationships as Writers” on Saturday, October 19th at 9:30 a.m.  Here’s an overview:

Social media offers diverse possibilities for collaboration as writers. An overview of different options (including blogging, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Pinterest), how to get started, and ways to use these relationships to foster 21st Century Literacy Skills will be included. We will consider ways to use online relationships to grow as educators, as well as ways to use it to connect and nourish young writers.

After months of becoming more active on Twitter, I’ll be the one to tackle that topic (e.g., PLNs, Twitter Chats).  I’ll also be talking about connecting with other educators on Facebook and sharing resources on Pinterest.  We will both talk about adult writing experiences and online challenges, such as the Slice of Life Story Challenge.  Ruth will be discussing the ways writers can use Skype and YouTube to connect and celebrate their writing.
